Lakota
Lakota (venner), som Lakota-folket udtaler og skriver "Lakhota" er en stamme af indfødte amerikanere (indianere), også kendt som Sioux, hvilket er en forkortelse for Nadouéssioux (fjende), således som en nabostamme, enten Ojibwa eller Ottawa, omtalte dem.
Efter at have indført hesten blev Lakota en del af præriekulturen der havde bisonen og hesten som omdrejningspunkt.
Der var 30.000 Lakota i midten af de 18. århundrede. I dag er der omkring 70.000. Lakota var allierede med Arapaho og Cheyenne stammerne og sammen besejrede de det 7. kavallari i Slaget ved Little Bighorn i 1876. De blev endeligt besejret 14 år senere i Massakren ved Wounded Knee.
De amerikanske stater North Dakota og South Dakota er opkaldt efter Lakota stammen.
